Your production type

1Production Planning and Scheduling0/3
1.Is production planning managed in a dedicated system (ERP, APS, MES) rather than spreadsheets?
2.Is there digital shop-floor scheduling and dispatching by workshops and shifts?
3.Are actual output and downtime recorded in a system on the same day?
2Equipment and Maintenance (EAM / CMMS)0/4
4.Is there a digital asset register with equipment passports, criticality and maintenance history?
5.Are maintenance requests created and closed in a system rather than via calls or messages?
6.How is maintenance primarily performed?
7.Are equipment parameters collected automatically (sensors, machines, production lines)?
3Quality and Traceability0/3
8.Is quality control managed digitally (inspection plans, quality records)?
9.Can a production batch be traced from raw materials to shipment within one day?
10.Are defect causes and corrective actions recorded in a system?
4Warehouse, Materials and Procurement0/3
11.Is inventory of raw materials and finished goods managed in a system with up-to-date balances?
12.Are barcodes or RFID used in warehouse or production operations?
13.Are material requests and purchase approvals processed digitally rather than via emails or chats?
5Energy and Utilities0/2
14.Is energy and utilities consumption (electricity, gas, water, steam) automatically measured?
15.Are energy efficiency indicators and losses calculated on a regular basis?
6Safety and Compliance0/2
16.Are safety trainings, permits and work authorizations managed digitally?
17.Are there defined cybersecurity practices for operational technology (OT, ICS)?
7Data and Integration0/3
18.Are core systems integrated (for example ERP, warehouse, production, maintenance)?
19.Are there unified production KPIs (OEE, downtime, output) trusted by both shop floor and management?
20.Is management reporting generated automatically?

The assessment focuses on operational discipline, data reliability and process ownership rather than tool names or technology labels.

Domain breakdown

Seven domains will be scored here.

Recommended next steps

After calculation you will see a roadmap based on blockers and your weakest domains.

From answers to an action plan

The score is a starting point. The roadmap shows what to fix first and why.

  1. 1

    Answer 20 questions

Each question has three answers: yes, partially or no. Seven sections walk you through your plant, one at a time.

  2. 2

    See your score and gaps

You get an overall maturity percentage and a score for each of the seven domains, so weak spots are visible at a glance.

  3. 3

    Follow a prioritized roadmap

Blockers come first. Then the weakest domains for your production type, with concrete actions for each.

What the assessment covers

Seven domains of a digital production environment, from the shop floor to management reporting.

  • Planning and schedulingERP, APS and MES use, shift dispatching, same-day output and downtime capture.
  • Equipment and maintenanceAsset register, CMMS workflow, preventive or condition-based maintenance, machine data.
  • Quality and traceabilityDigital inspection plans, batch traceability, defect causes and corrective actions.
  • Warehouse and procurementInventory accuracy, barcode or RFID, digital material requests and approvals.
  • Energy and utilitiesAutomatic metering of electricity, gas, water and steam, and efficiency indicators.
  • Safety and OT securityDigital permits and training, cybersecurity practices for operational technology.
  • Data and integrationIntegrated core systems, trusted KPIs such as OEE, automatic management reporting.

Frequently asked questions

What is a manufacturing digital maturity assessment?

It is a structured self-check of how well a production site uses digital systems and data. It shows where the plant stands today and which improvements will pay off first.

How is the score calculated?

Every answer is worth 0, 1 or 2 points. With 20 questions the maximum is 40 points, shown as a percentage. Up to 30% is an initial level, up to 60% basic, up to 80% advanced, and above that high.

Does it work for process industry as well as discrete manufacturing?

Yes. The questions are the same, but the roadmap is tailored to your production type. If you are not sure, the result is evaluated as discrete manufacturing.

What happens to my data?

The assessment runs in your browser. Your name and email are sent to MDCplus only when you submit them. We use anonymous usage statistics, such as the overall score, to improve the assessment.
